Art Deco vs. Neo Deco: Is Either Still Popular?
Art Deco interior design began in Paris and gained a foothold in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, while Neo Deco spun off in the 1990s and 2000s. What is Art Deco Interior Design?
Art Deco interior design breathes the glamour and decadence of the 20s, and it’s still prevalent today. Rich color, embellished details, bold geometric shapes, and exotic and eye-catching materials like glass, ebony, mirrors, chrome, marble, and lacquer contribute to the style.
Today, that means choosing bold paint colors in reds, greens, blues, and pinks and throwing in some chrome, silver, and black for contrast. For furniture, look for large, bold pieces with intriguing detailing. You can also include chevron or zigzag patterns, sunbursts, and stylized wildlife.
What is Neo Deco Interior Design?
Again, Neo Deco interior design is inspired by Art Deco. While this style peaked in the early 2000s, it still has a strong and loyal following today. It employs moodier color schemes than Art Deco and loves dramatic details, like drapery, in every room, including the bathroom. Velvet fabric on furniture, silk window treatments, and other rich details make this style. For tables and kitchen countertops, consider onyx, alabaster, and malachite. Mix jewel tones with metals to replicate the look and vary where you find them to add intricate details and dramatic finishes.
Art Deco vs. Neo Deco Window Treatments
